Ocean University of China

Ocean University of China (OUC) is a key comprehensive university under the direct administration of the Chinese Ministry of Education, with distinctive strengths in oceanography and fisheries science. Founded in 1924, the university has undergone various periods of development under different names, including Private Qingdao University, National Qingdao University, National Shandong University, and Shandong University, before becoming Shandong Oceanographic College in 1959, Qingdao Ocean University in 1988, and finally Ocean University of China in 2002. The university is recognized as the cradle of China's marine professionals, having graduated a large number of competent specialists in marine science. Notably, 70 percent of Ph.D. holders in oceanography and fisheries in China graduated from OUC, and the university has produced numerous distinguished researchers, including the first scientist to reach the South Pole and the first Chinese scientists to investigate and reach both the North and South Poles.

OUC offers a comprehensive range of academic programs across multiple disciplines including Science, Engineering, Agronomy (Fisheries), Pharmaceutics, Economics, Management, Liberal Arts, Law, Education, History, and Art. The university operates four campuses with a total of approximately 347 hectares, including the recently completed West Coast Campus. With 20 colleges/schools and a Teaching Center of Fundamental Courses, OUC provides 69 undergraduate programs, 81 doctoral degree programs, 193 master's degree programs, and 12 post-doctoral research programs. The university is deeply committed to cultivating outstanding talent in the marine field and has produced 370,000 graduates, including 16 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences or the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and 4 directors of the State Oceanic Administration.
